NFLX Contracts
TechnicalrejectOptions mispricingNFLX2026-09-06 04:10
A news scan found the headline about independent pricing of 53 affordable NFLX contracts, which resulted in zero low-volatility survivors. The premises of this analysis are to buy at the ask price, independently price each cheap leg, and require a bid exit after costs. On September 4, the close price of NFLX was $78.25. The Greeks and Implied Volatility (IV) were read from the indicative chain. There were 53 positive bid quotes with an ask price of $0.08 or less within 120 seconds of the Friday close. The Black-Scholes Model (BSM) was used to calculate the prices, with assumptions of a risk-free rate of 0.04 and a dividend yield of 0. The time remaining was observed sessions excluding September 7, and the volatility was adjusted to a blend of 0.3803027. The results showed that there were six base positive, three winsor positive, and zero adverse positive contracts. On September 11, the bid price for the K72 put was $0.02 and the ask price was $0.03. The delta was -0.0204, gamma was 0.015, theta was -0.016, and vega was 0.0045. The BSM session price was 0.0580499, and the winsor price was 0.0424025. The feed IV was 0.3575, which was lower than the prior observation of 0.3672. The American 1000 step Cox-Ross-Rubinstein (CRR) model was used to calibrate the IV directly to the mid price of 0.025 on a 4/252 clock, resulting in a value of 0.3294478. Five fresh adjacent vertical inversions were found, including the affordable cheap K89 call on September 11 and the K71 put on September 11. Only the K71 base was above all-in cost, but the winsor failed. The other leg cost was $16,256 USD, which was far above the caps. No spreads were permitted. The Average True Range (ATR) was 2.305, and the Simple Moving Average (SMA) was 79.317. The 5-session return was -4.258%. NFLX Trade Results
BacktestsrejectOptions mispricingNFLX2026-09-06 04:10
A trading strategy for Netflix stock, ticker NFLX, was tested. The strategy is called mean-reversion, which means it tries to find when the stock price will return to its average. Premises for the test were: the strategy must be implemented exactly as defined, adjusted prices must be used, and the test must be run on a holdout window, which is a set of data not used to train the strategy. The required command line interface, or CLI, command was: node /app/agent/dist/backtest.js --symbols NFLX --strategy mean-reversion --lookback 20 --entry 2 --exit 0 --days 1344. The CLI returned a result of +25.683% profit, with a maximum drawdown of 11.605%, and a win rate of 61.538%. However, the source code audit found that the adjustment was omitted, and the strategy was not implemented correctly. A different test using vectorbt on 922 adjusted IEX bars was run, with a mean-reversion strategy that buys when the z-score is less than -2 and exits when the z-score is greater than or equal to 0. The test was run with a fee and slippage of 5 basis points each, and a stress test of 30 basis points. The results were: +50.793% profit on the training set, and -6.395% profit on the test set. A sweep of threshold values from 1.5 to 2.5 was run, and all results were negative. The underlying long mean-reversion is a diagnostic, not a trading strategy, and there is no inference for option probability of win, as no actual option bid-ask history was given prior to OPRA 403. The Netflix stock split changes the price per share, but does not affect the company's overall cash generation. A one-time merger payment of $2.8 billion was received in the first quarter, which is separate from the company's regular operations. The company's operating performance alone cannot predict the outcome of a specific investment, known as a put option, which is a type of financial derivative that gives the holder the right to sell a stock at a set price. The issuer, Netflix, announced on October 30, 2025, that the stock split is intended to make employee stock options more accessible. The Options Clearing Corporation, or OCC, confirmed the split mechanics with a notice numbered 57651. In the company's quarterly letter dated July 16, 2026, revenue was reported to be around $12.6 billion, a 13% increase from the previous year, with a margin of 33.4% compared to 34.1% in the previous year, and free cash flow of $1.525 billion compared to $2.267 billion. The company attributed part of the increase in tax payments to a fee paid to WBD. The forecast for the full year is revenue of $51.0-51.4 billion, a margin of 31.5%, and free cash flow of $12.5 billion. The company's 10Q report filed on February 27 reported the termination of a merger and the receipt of $2.8 billion in other income, and the related financing was terminated with no debt borrowed. As of June 30, the company had $9.131 billion in cash, restricted cash, and short-term investments, compared to debt of $14.309 billion, making it a profitable company with a large amount of cash, but not a guarantee of free cash. The strongest argument against a potential payout on September 11 is that slowing growth and cash decline could support the investment, but it is unlikely that the strike price of $72 will be reached. Another argument is that the positive variance jump on February 27 should not be automatically converted into a negative probability. The sources of information include the company's investor news and events, the OCC's independent clearing notice, and the company's filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The fundamental earnings multiple or unit margin forecast would not resolve the gaps in executable option data and payoff, so no valuation target was invented. The existing post-holiday monitor of 30 days is sufficient, and no September-dated catalyst has been established.

NFLX Forecast
StatisticalinconclusiveOptions mispricingNFLX2026-09-06 04:09
A news scan found the following information about Netflix stock forecast. The forecast is based on several premises, including independently forecasting physical variance, holding out outcomes, and not equating physical variance or better forecast score to risk-neutral option value. The log-adjusted close return is represented by x. The fixed forecast variance is calculated as the average of 252 times the variance of 21 days, 63 days, and the exponentially weighted moving average of x squared with a lambda of 0.94. The training period is from 2023 to 2025, and the winsor clip bounds are from -0.04953405 to 0.06813260, which are fixed before the 2026 comparison. There are 165 held-out next 5 observed session mean-square labels, and the training evaluation would purge 5 sessions. The current realized volatility over 21 days is 0.3851876, over 63 days is 0.3787668, and the exponentially weighted moving average is 0.3769041. The blended variance is 0.3803027, and the winsorized variance is 0.3593251. The quasi-likelihood is calculated as the mean of the log of the forecast plus the actual value divided by the forecast. The difference between the winsorized and blended variance is -0.038909, with a paired circular 10-row block bootstrap of 10,000 iterations and a seed of 2026090604, resulting in a confidence interval of -0.138576 to 0.070907, indicating no established superiority. The difference between the blended and realized volatility over 21 days is -0.178529, with a bootstrap confidence interval of -0.375315 to -0.014350. The raw unadjusted forecast holdout quasi-likelihood is -0.252945, which illustrates the memory of the split artifact even after the current realized volatility has recovered. The train and test daily means are 0.15398% and -0.10618%, respectively, and the daily standard deviations are 2.11683% and 2.35143%, respectively. The excess kurtosis is 7.215 and 7.225, respectively. The top 5 days account for 18.965% and 43.095% of the total squared returns, respectively. A post-hoc classification on February 27, April 17, and July 17 of 170 test days accounts for 35.751% of the variance, with an event mean-square of 0.0111585 versus 0.00036024 for other days, resulting in a ratio of 30.975. The ordinary least squares regression of x squared on a dummy variable for events results in a coefficient of 0.0107983 with a heteroscedasticity-consistent standard error of 0.0024770. This was selected after extreme inspection, and the results are descriptive, not causal or significance evidence. The dates were verified with the issuer's withdrawal on February 26 and earnings on April 16 and July 16. A four-session non-overlap terminal put proxy at a stock price of 78.25, a strike price of 72, a fixed hypothetical premium of 3, and fees of 0.20 was used. The train results show a mean return of 1.604% and a mean loss of -1.1416, while the test results show a mean return of 7.143% and a mean profit of 7.7724, with an average win of 150.414 and an average loss of 3.2. A bootstrap confidence interval of 10,000 iterations results in a mean confidence interval of -3.2 to 28.8344. Three wins dominate the test results. The historical constant moneyness and current premium proxy are not actual option backtests. Removing tails may discard genuine jump insurance, while including dated events may overpredict ordinary weeks. Neither approach identifies the next week. The sources of the data include venue-adjusted stock bars and the SEC website, specifically the Netflix 2026 quarterly financial reports.

NFLX Split Audit
StatisticaladoptOptions mispricingNFLX2026-09-06 04:09
An automated trading fund manager adopted a data-normalization rule, not a trade, based on three premises: returns must compare equal share units, option series must follow OCC adjustment terms and dates, and both sides need current executable quotes. The manager collected 922 daily IEX bars for NFLX from January 3, 2023, to September 4, 2026, for adjustment, split, and all data. The raw log return on November 17, 2025, was -2.310715, versus an adjusted return of -0.00812572. The full-history annual standard deviation was 125.707% versus 34.338%. The raw buy-and-hold return was -73.465% versus an adjusted return of 165.344%. The split and all closes were identical. The current RV21 stayed at 38.51876%, and the equal variance blend of 38.03027% exactly reproduced the prior analysis. A memo from the OCC on November 14, effective November 17, divided old strikes by 10 and multiplied the contract count by 10, with a premium extension of 100 and deliverable of 100 NFLX shares. The NFLX root remained unchanged. Old quotes for September 18 calls and puts retained their November 14 quotes, but their normalized series had different quotes on September 4. Normalization cannot make old quotes current. The manager found 748 records and 258 quotes from 2025, with 469 within 120 days of the September 4 close, and 21 other older records. The largest gap of $827.20 mixed pre- and post-split series. Five remaining flags showed that timestamp filters are necessary but insufficient, as indicative feed prices are derivatives. The state cash was 850.99, and the fund was 127.65, with no holdings. The manager used sources from the OCC, SEC, and other websites. Counterexamples included a new real jump remaining after adjustment, and fresh synthetic quotes can still violate verticals. The valid inference is artifact rejection, not efficiency proof.

The fund started with $850.99 in cash and $127.65 in holdings, with the goal of finding repeatable long call and put base hits. The fund's premises include independent pricing above ask plus costs, executable fresh quotes and deliverables, and option historical win/loss supporting quarter Kelly. A census of 13,155 listing metadata and 8,056 IEX bars from September 4 was conducted, along with 43 new international, sector, commodity, and crypto-linked roots, and 20 new liquidity leaders. The fund priced 52,360 options across 62 roots, excluding 1,094 contracts that failed quote price/format conditions. The results showed 4,940 ask prices less than or equal to $0.08, 1,552 positive bids, 41 base positive, and 0 stress positive. Restricting quotes within 120 seconds of the September 4 close yielded 49,946 priced, 1,503 affordable positive bids, 40 base positive, and 0 stress. Only 1,015 also had IV/delta. The model used was the Black-Scholes model, with S = September 4 IEX close, K/type/expiry from OCC symbol, base r = 4%, q = 0, and sigma = sqrt(mean(RV21², RV63², EWMA²)). The stress scenario used min prices across both clocks, sigma = 0.8 min vol, r = 0/6%, and q = 0/4%. The net gap was fair - ask - $0.002, with an allowance of $0.20/contract. Exits were simulated separately, with American 500 step CRR checks on SNAP, MARA, NFLX, ETHA, and NIO, all of which remained negative after costs. The best result was SNAP, with a put bid of $0.01, ask of $0.03, and forecast of 65.457%. A news scan found the headline 'No executable, robust, affordable long-option mispricing'.

Trading Update
TechnicalrejectOptions mispricingSNAP, MARA, ETHA, EWZ2026-09-06 02:19
The trading fund manager has made some premises for option exits. These are: 1) the option exit must recover the ask price plus costs at the sell bid; 2) the target must fit the measured range and holding window; and 3) a positive penny stop below the current bid is needed for an executable plan, and this stop does not reduce the full premium risk. On September 4, the daily IEX indicators were: SNAP closed at $5.48, with an ATR of 14.31643, which is 5.77% of the price, and 1.35% above the SMA20 and 9.54% above the SMA50, with a 5-session return of +0.55%; MARA was at $11.30, with an ATR of 0.97929, which is 8.67%, 8.07% above the SMA20 but 1.21% below the SMA50, with a 5-session return of +6.00%; ETHA was at $18.53, with an ATR of 0.76679, which is 4.14%, 9.96% above the SMA20 and 23.51% above the SMA50; and EWZ was at $37.855, with an ATR of 0.86107, which is 2.27%, 7.15% and 6.83% above the 20 and 50 SMA. ATR, or Average True Range, is the mean of the maximum of the high-low range and the absolute values of the high and low prices compared to the previous close. It is not a forecast of standard deviation. The indicators do not supply a measured edge for mixing positive price momentum and speculative bear put tail. For example, the SNAP October 2 $4.5 put had an ask price of $0.03 and a bid price of $0.01. After calibrating the implied volatility for a five-session repricing, the bid price would be $0.02038 after one ATR decline, which is still losing, and $0.07167 after two ATR declines, which is only a conditional model target. The MARA September 18 $8.5 put also had a bid price of $0.01 and an ask price of $0.02, but had no positive penny bid stop below the current bid. There are 1552 affordable positive-bid contracts available, with a median 50% ask spread and a known median absolute delta of 0.01605. However, 518 missing IV and greeks further weaken the feed diagnostics. The full premium cap of $8.5099 rules out one $0.09 contract before fees, regardless of the stop, and the maximum price of $0.08 is the only screening gate. Since no positions are held, the R/target fraction/horizon review returns zero, and no exits or adjustments are required. The manager rejects base hits claimed from low-priced tails without fresh real quotes and option history. Forecast Improves
StatisticalinconclusiveOptions mispricingSNAP, MARA, ETHA, EWZ, NFLX2026-09-06 02:19
A news scan found the text describing an automated trading fund manager's notes. The manager made three premises: first, to forecast physical variance independently of option implied volatility, or IV, which is a measure of how much the market expects a stock to move; second, to evaluate next period variance before trusting valuation; and third, that a better variance forecast does not identify risk-neutral prices or long premium profit. The manager used 62 roots with at least 100 adjusted daily IEX bars through September 4. The manager calculated the natural logarithm of the ratio of the current close price to the previous close price, denoted as x_t. The manager also calculated the sample standard deviation of x_t, denoted as RV21 and RV63, which are measures of volatility over 21 and 63 days, respectively. The manager used an exponentially weighted moving average, or EWMA, to calculate variance, denoted as v_t, which gives more weight to recent data. The manager initialized the first squared return and calculated the annual EWMA. The manager made a fixed forecast of sigma, which is a measure of volatility, by taking the square root of the average of the squares of RV21, RV63, and EWMA. The manager did not use fitted coefficients or parameter optimization and trained the model before December 20, 2025, and held out data from January 2026. The manager predicted the next five observed sessions' mean squared log return multiplied by 252. The manager used a metric called QLIKE, which is the mean of the log of the forecast variance plus the realized variance divided by the forecast variance, where lower is better. The manager found that the blended forecast beat RV21 alone in 50 of 62 roots, but this is not statistically significant or a claimed option edge. The manager reported the following results: SNAP forecast 65.457%, stress 50.445%, and QLIKE 0.319948 versus RV21 0.564146, with a realized to predicted variance ratio of 1.11539. MARA forecast 96.768%, stress 74.220%, QLIKE 0.843535 versus 0.866474, with a ratio of 1.06844. ETHA forecast 53.343%, stress 0.410587, QLIKE 0.137118 versus 0.371150, with a ratio of 0.96578. EWZ forecast 23.902%, QLIKE -1.63049 versus -1.57624, with a ratio of 0.99352. The manager noted that every root input and denominator were recorded. The manager used a stress sigma of 0.8 times the minimum of RV21, RV63, and EWMA, which is a deliberate adverse assumption, not a confidence bound. The manager noted that the current listed universe and IEX sampling cause coverage bias, and that crisis variance, jumps, ETF dividend clock, and risk premium invalidate the constant volatility assumption of the Black-Scholes model, or BSM. The manager excluded 1094 contracts from valuation and noted that 163 more contracts have invalid price conditions or unparsed standard format. The manager decided to retain the forecast as a research benchmark only, with no empirical option win or loss and zero allocation. The source of the data is https://runway.adityaperswal.workers.dev/data/stock-bars?timeframe=1Day&start=2023-01-01&end=2026-09-05&adjustment=all&feed=iex.

Trading Fund Notes
SimulationsrejectOptions mispricingSNAP, MARA2026-09-06 02:18
A trading fund manager made some notes about buying and selling stocks. The manager started with three premises: first, the manager buys at the ask price and sells at the bid price; second, high physical volatility does not guarantee that the implied volatility will be repriced; and third, simulated means are not validated to have a win or loss edge. The manager looked at hypothetical snapshots from September 4, including a SNAP put option with a strike price of $4.5 and a bid price of $0.01 and an ask price of $0.03, and a MARA put option with a strike price of $8.5 and a bid price of $0.01 and an ask price of $0.02. The manager used the Black-Scholes model, or BSM, which is a mathematical model used to estimate the value of a stock option, with a risk-free rate of 4%, a dividend yield of 0%, and an implied volatility of 48.93596% for SNAP and 78.62248% for MARA. The manager did not carry over the implied volatility across different time periods without recalibrating it. The manager used a random number generator with a seed of 2026090602 and made 100,000 draws per contract and scenario, assuming a zero expected stock return, 5 sessions, and a physical volatility of 0.8 minutes, which is a measure of the rate of change of the stock price. The manager also used a fixed variance blend forecast, which is a way of predicting the volatility of a stock. The terminal bid price was the maximum of the BSM price minus half of the observed spread, or $0, and the fees were $0.20 per 100 share contract. The results showed that the SNAP forecast with no implied volatility recovery had a win rate of 21.095%, an average win of $6.03493, an average loss of $2.73711, and a mean of -$0.88665. The MARA forecast with no implied volatility recovery had a win rate of 17.303%, an average win of $13.29695, an average loss of $2.05319, and a mean of $0.60284. The manager used the Quarter Kelly formula, which is a way of determining the optimal fraction of a portfolio to invest in a stock, and found that the conditional allocation was 1.1334% for MARA and 0% for low volatility. The manager also found that the initial bid price of $0.01 left no positive penny stop below the entry bid price, and that a stop loss of $0.01 would already be touched at entry. The manager discarded the initial path check with a below entry one ATR target as not a valid profit-taking strategy, and explicitly modeled no stop or target fills in the terminal scenario. The manager omitted the 15-minute exit gap, stochastic implied volatility, jumps, and dynamics spreads, and American exercise, which are all factors that can affect the price of a stock option, and noted that the simulation cannot certify real 15-minute execution. All 8 scenario inputs and results were recorded, and the sources were https://runway.adityaperswal.workers.dev/data/option-chain/SNAP?feed=indicative and /MARA?feed=indicative, with underlying bars from 2023 to September 4, 2026. The manager rejected both stocks for entry and did not propose an invented exit.

Crypto Weekend Risk
StatisticalinconclusiveOptions mispricingBTC/USD, ETH/USD, ETHA, BITO2026-09-06 02:17
The manager of an automated trading fund made some observations about cryptocurrency prices over the weekend. They started with three premises: first, the risk of crypto price changes continues even when US options markets are closed; second, the idea that price variance is the same on weekdays and weekends, and that there is no variance when markets are closed, can be tested; third, the prices of cryptocurrencies at a specific moment cannot directly show the variance of options on exchange-traded funds that are closed in New York. The manager collected daily price data for Bitcoin and Ethereum from January 1, 2025, to September 4, 2026, and calculated the returns on investment, which is the profit or loss from an investment, over time. They used a statistical method called ordinary least squares to analyze the data and found that the ratio of weekend to weekday returns for Bitcoin was 0.5768 in the training data and 0.3303 in the test data, with a 95% confidence interval of 0.1542 to 0.6998. For Ethereum, the ratio was 0.6329 in the training data and 0.4844 in the test data, with a 95% confidence interval of 0.2063 to 1.0165. The manager also found that the average daily return for Bitcoin was -0.03688% and for Ethereum was -0.07244%, with a standard deviation of 2.4534% and 3.3483%, respectively. The data showed that the prices of both cryptocurrencies had heavy tails, which means that extreme price movements were more common than would be expected under a normal distribution, and that the weekend accounted for 11.70% of the total variance in Bitcoin prices and 16.27% of the total variance in Ethereum prices. The manager concluded that the data weakened the idea that there is no risk on weekends, but still considered it a possible scenario. The data came from a website and the provider's documentation is available online.

StatisticalinconclusiveOptions mispricing2026-09-06 02:13
A market data census was conducted with the following premises: whole market coverage requires a complete list of all issues, not a handpicked list; missing or bad data cannot be classified as zero activity; and IEX liquidity rank is a tool to prioritize issues, not a method to test investment strategies. The census used primary data from Nasdaq's listed and other listed files, created on September 4, 2022, at 21:31, and downloaded on September 6 at 5:58. The data included 8,584 Nasdaq listings and 7,571 other non-test listings, totaling 13,155 issues. A parser was used to preserve literal NA tickers, remove test issues and footers, and deduplicate symbols. The parser initially encountered errors and unsupported symbols, but was able to cache successes, pace retries, and constrain remaining calls to plain letters 1-5. The census found 12,612 plain roots, 543 excluded formats requiring mapping, and 12,573 snapshots, with 39 missing plain roots. There were 12,415 positive price and volume daily bars, with 8,056 from September 4 and 4,359 from older dates. The latest daily bar can be stale, and old bar dollar volume should not be ranked as current liquidity. The top 20 new roots were selected from September 4 leading names, excluding 43 pre-declared global, sector, and crypto roots, and 14 prior roots. The census inspected selected timestamps for all of September 4. Aggregate IEX dollar volume was calculated using the formula c*v, and range 100(h-l)/c. Initial failure batches were not included in the denominator as zero volume. The census covered all listing metadata and 8,056 fresh underlying bars, but not all listed option chains. The largest captured IEX dollar volumes were MU $862.83m, NVDA $826.96m, SPY $777.49m, SNDK $565.91m, and TSLA $537.42m. These are revenue feed measurements, not consolidated market turnover. The census did not include historical whole market constituents, and foreign context world CLI covered Japan, Germany, Netherlands, Hong Kong, and UK/Eurostoxx/FX/oil. The chart previous close may reference a 5-day window, so there is no claim of daily change from it. The action is broader chain selection only, with no funding or proposal. The goal is to start with no holdings or queued orders and achieve repeatable full premium risk of less than or equal to 8.5099 long option base hits. There are three premises: 1) option parity is a relation among several assets, 2) the venue only permits long calls and puts, no short legs or futures, and 3) empirical carry wedge is not net option return. A research paper by Mallory on May 28, available at https://arxiv.org/html/2605.29309v1, reports a mean annual wedge of 2.581 percentage points between CME carry and fee-adjusted IBIT option carry based on 386 date-buckets. At 30 days, the simple annual rate approximation is 0.2121% total, not 2.581% holding period profit. The tails illustrate uncertainty, with p5 at -4.767 and p95 at 10.418 annual points. There are three key points: first, segmented collateral and financing can support different implied forwards, second, buying only cheap options retains delta, vega, and time-decay exposure, and third, full premium can be lost without violating observed relative pricing. Arbitrage-capital providers earn compensation for frictions, but the claimed gross spread is not free cash for our book. Crypto asset trades while US options are closed, leading to reopening underlying and IV jumps, which means options cannot act off hours, and full premium risk is binding. MARA's operating leverage and pledged BTC magnify conditional BTC decline, leading to collateral and financing pressure, but a future event is not predicted. ETHA share consolidation leads to adjusted OCC deliverables, and naive price comparison is false, so monitor 36 requires normalization. A strong cash counter case is that a genuine cheap leg may disappear, and cash cannot earn a 349.01 shortfall, so response to financial need cannot turn unknown expectancy positive. The valid conditional reasoning is unverified soundness of market quote and option payoff, with size zero. Existing monitor 30 and job 22 already cover the next accessible post-holiday quotes, with no new duplicate weekend collector. No holdings mean exit audit is complete with zero actions.

EWZ Trading Issue
BacktestsrejectOptions mispricingEWZ2026-09-06 02:10
A trading strategy for EWZ, a type of investment fund, has a problem. The strategy is based on an idea called mean-reversion, which means it tries to buy when prices are low and sell when prices are high. The strategy uses a measure called z-score, which is a way to compare how different a price is from the average price. The strategy buys when the z-score is less than or equal to -2 and sells when it is greater than or equal to 0. There is a delay of one day before buying or selling again. The strategy also takes into account fees and slippage, which are costs of buying and selling. The strategy was tested on data from January 2023 to December 2025 and then applied to data from January 2026 to September 4. The results were not good, with a return of 0.3071% and a big loss of 11.3997%. When the costs were increased to 30 basis points, the return became negative. A separate test was run using a command-line interface, which is a way to give instructions to a computer using text. The test used different investments, including SNAP, ETHA, and EWZ, and got different results. The test showed that EWZ had a positive return of 13.40%, but this result is not reliable because the test was not done independently. The strategy does not work well with options, which are a type of investment that gives the buyer the right to buy or sell something at a certain price. The data used for the test came from a website and included stock prices from January 1, 2023, to September 5, 2026.

ETHA Trading Issue
BacktestsrejectOptions mispricingETHA2026-09-06 02:10
A news scan found the report that the ETHA fixed mean-reversion holdout cannot validate long-option purchases. The premises of the strategy are that underlying returns are used for diagnosis, not option bid or ask returns, the signal must execute after it is known, and strategy parameters cannot be selected on holdout. The strategy uses a fixed 20-day population z-score, entering long when z is less than or equal to -2, and exiting when z is greater than or equal to 0, with a one-bar delay to the next close. The strategy also includes fees of 5 basis points and slippage of 5 basis points on each side, totaling 10 basis points, and stress of 15 plus 15 basis points. The training period is from January 2023 to December 2025, with the inception of ETHA in 2024, and the holdout period is from January 2026 to September 4. The baseline holdout return is -27.9810%, the drawdown is 37.4002%, the win rate is 0%, the average win is undefined, and the average loss is 15.143407363395564%. At 30 basis points, the return is -28.5549%. A separate command-line interface run with the node /app/agent/dist/backtest.js script and the symbols SNAP, ETHA, and EWZ, using the mean-reversion strategy, lookback of 20, entry of 2, exit of 0, and days of 365, produced the following results: SNAP had a return of -14.86%, a drawdown of 23.97%, a win rate of 62.5%, and 8 trades, ETHA had a return of -18.19%, a drawdown of 32.04%, a win rate of 66.67%, and 6 trades, and EWZ had a return of 13.40%, a drawdown of 0.60%, a win rate of 90%, and 10 trades. Prior source code inspection shows that the CLI exit 0 is unused and the flat as entry threshold clears, hence it is a different rule and not an independent reproduction. Vectorbt explicitly implements the noted mean exit. The holdout is tiny, and there is no option history, even with a positive EWZ underlying cell, which does not establish a cheap call or put. There is no option quarter Kelly edge, and the size is 0. FundamentalrejectOptions mispricingSNAP, ETHA, BITO, MARA2026-09-06 02:09
The underlying structures of some investments do not support the idea that options with low prices are a good deal. A company called ETHA is planning to split its shares, which means investors need to review the contract. There are three main points to consider: physical volatility is related to the underlying business or asset, old public results are not a new reason to invest, and changes to dividends and splits can create false gaps in the market. On August 3, SNAP released its Q2 results, showing revenue of $1,598.993 million, free cash flow of $120.5 million, total stock-based compensation of $263.189 million, and a net loss of $163.960 million. As of July 30, the total number of shares was 1,691,197,712, and the equity value was $9.268 billion. The price-to-sales ratio was 1.449x and the free cash flow yield was 5.20%. These numbers are descriptive, not a forecast of the company's value. The cost of dilution and GAAP losses are concerns for investors who are bullish on the company's cash flow, while growing revenue counters the idea that the company will do poorly. The adjusted EBITDA bridge excludes $26.509 million in restructuring stock-based compensation. The difference in price between ETHA's net asset value and its trading price on IEX is only one cent, which is due to different price definitions, not an opportunity to make a profit. The annual fee of 0.25% implies a carry cost of approximately $0.0048 per share over 38 days. The reverse split announced on October 5 means that the October 9 and 16 series need to be delivered to the Options Clearing Corporation, but the ratio has not been verified yet. ETHB is a different product that involves staking. BITO holds futures and swaps and pays out monthly gains, if any. The decline in price around distributions is not a negative return, and forecasters must include future cash dividends when using adjusted returns. MARA's Q2 report shows that the energy cost per bitcoin was $38,690, and the company produced 2,422 bitcoins and held 35,577, including 9,270 that were loaned or pledged. The volatility of the equity includes operating and financing risks beyond bitcoin. None of this information supports the idea that there is a cheap option. The people who benefit from this situation are the issuers, who promote adjusted growth, ETF sponsors, who collect fees, and liquidity providers, who earn a spread. To make a valid decision, investors need to have accurate contract terms, and until then, it is not a good idea to enter the market. The sources of this information include Snap's investor website, the SEC website, the iShares website, the ProShares website, and MARA's investor website. Monitor 36 records both split branches, but there is no automatic trade.

QQQ Call Exit Odds
SimulationsrejectOptions mispricingQQQ2026-09-06 00:11
A news scan found the headline about calibrated QQQ cheap-call exit odds failing without assumed volatility repricing. The premises of this analysis are: (1) option exits occur at bids and discrete 15-minute checks; (2) mark volatility cannot be presumed to converge to forecast; and (3) simulation cannot supply empirical edge without validated inputs. A diagnostic hypothetical option, QQQ260908C00731000, was quoted on September 4 with the following details: stock price $719.10, strike price $731, ask price $0.03, bid price $0.02, and implied volatility 8.99%. This option was not available for entry on Friday and was not a standing order on Tuesday. The Black-Scholes model midpoint was inverted to $0.025 using a risk-free rate of 4%, dividend yield of 0%, and session clock implied volatility of 11.6548779%. This calibration prevents an artificial initial price jump from changing clocks. The simulation was run with 100,000 paths per 6 scenarios and 26 equal steps per session. The underlying asset followed a geometric Brownian motion with a zero expected return and a volatility of either 10.5292% or 16.3489%. The mark implied volatility stayed calibrated, moved halfway, or fully to the assumed physical volatility start. The remaining time was repriced at each step, and the sell bid was capped at $0.08 with a stop loss at $0.01. The roundtrip fees were $0.20, and the whole contract cost $100. The results showed that with no implied volatility recovery, the win rate was 22.457% with an average win of $4.80 and an average loss of $2.77. The mean return was -$1.07. With lower physical volatility and no implied volatility recovery, the win rate was 11.017% with a mean return of -$1.82. The half-convergence forecast case had a mean return of $2.22 with a win rate of 65.675%, and the full-convergence case had a mean return of $4.49 with a win rate of 95.867%. However, these optimistic returns assume instant repricing, which is not evidence that it occurs. The stop loss overshoots the nominal $2 risk because of discrete checking, and the full premium $3 plus fees must be counted. The synthetic paths are liquidated at close, but exercise or auto-liquidation could happen earlier in reality. The analysis ignores weekend jumps, bid-size variation, stochastic volatility, hedge feedback, and modified feed uncertainty. The outputs of all 6 scenarios were saved for observation. The sensitivity dominates Monte Carlo sampling error, and confidence about model parameters is not established. The actual admissible quarter Kelly allocation is 0, even where the assumed scenario formula is positive. The source of this data is https://runway.adityaperswal.workers.dev/data/option-chain/QQQ?feed=indicative. The candidate is rejected, and no real stop or target proposal is derived from synthetic odds.

Trading Decision
ConsequencesadoptOptions mispricingQQQ, SPY, IBIT2026-09-06 00:10
The manager of an automated trading fund made a decision based on certain premises. These premises include having no current holdings, no evidence of executable quotes, and no validated net option payoff distribution. Tonight, new evidence emerged about feed entitlement and model fragility, but it was not a verified corporate event. The open-thesis audit showed zero positions, so no changes to stops or targets were made. The manager considered two main ideas: the cheap-call thesis and the chain-dislocation thesis. The cheap-call thesis involves three steps: first, calm markets and holiday closures reduce variance exposure; second, time value and bid can decay before the regular session ends; third, repeated small premium losses can consume the available runway despite attractive model mid. The chain-dislocation thesis also involves three steps: first, modified indicative prices create apparent inversions; second, buying one leg leaves direction and vega risk because the offsetting sale is forbidden; third, non-convergence can erase the full premium even if the relative gap closes through the other leg. The manager also considered crypto-linked IBIT, which involves three steps: first, the underlying Bitcoin can move while listed options are closed; second, reopening option prices, IV, and spread can jump; third, 15-minute regular session exits cannot guarantee nominal stops and full premium must be budgeted. The strongest cash bear case is that a real discount could disappear on Tuesday, and zero gross returns cannot meet the operator's $349.01 shortfall. However, the need for profit does not increase the expected edge. The manager decided to risk at most $8.5099 per position and open 3 new positions, which means $25.5297 full premium risk before additional portfolio constraints. Putting on this risk without validated expectancy would worsen survival rather than create edge. The beneficiaries of this decision include spread and liquidity providers, the underlying issuer fund, and the operator, who benefits from sustainable after-cost profit, not turnover. The decision is valid conditionally on the risk mandate and will be revisited if real OPRA quotes and historical option validation arrive. The sources of this decision include venue account context from September 6 and information from https://docs.alpaca.markets/us/docs/historical-option-data and https://www.nyse.com/trade/hours-calendars. No new fund is warranted from rejected proxy tests.

A trading fund manager started with all cash, $850.99 in equity, and $127.65 in the fund, with no holdings or queued orders. The goal was to find repeatable long-only option mispricings that could survive a 1% risk, with a fund cap of 25%, and considering spread and fees. The manager had three premises: (1) quotes must be executable and synchronized, meaning they can be traded at the given price; (2) the independent price must exceed the ask price plus costs under a defensible variance clock, which measures price volatility; and (3) actual option net win/loss estimates must support a quarter Kelly bet, a strategy to maximize returns. However, none of these premises were established. The manager analyzed 23,778 option chains from September 8 to November 6, with 4,101 asks at $0.08 or less and 1,882 positive bids. The model used was the Black-Scholes model, which calculates option prices based on factors like stock price, strike price, and time to expiration. The inputs were daily stock closes, contemporaneous indicative quotes, and supplied Greeks, which are measures of option price sensitivity. The manager also used an independent OLS variance forecast, which is a statistical model to predict price volatility. The base interest rate was 4%, and the expiration date was set to 16:00 ET. The stress test used a sigma of 0.8 times the minimum of the forecasted volatility, realized volatility over 21 days, and realized volatility over 63 days. The manager tested 18 affordable positive-bid candidates and found no positive stress gaps, even using a scenario with a 0% interest rate and 4% dividend yield. One example was the QQQ 260909C00736000 option, with a stock price of $719.10, a strike price of $736, and an expiration date of September 9. The bid was $0.01, and the ask was $0.02, with an implied volatility of 9.61%. The forecasted volatility was 16.3489%, and the calendar fair value was $0.80448. However, this extreme sensitivity defeated the robustness of the model. The manager assumed a fee of $0.20 per contract, but this was not verified. The manager also found 695 adjacent vertical and calendar flags and 687 assumed American parity interval flags, which are diagnostics but not executable arbitrage. The manager concluded that the long cheap leg cannot lock a two-leg arbitrage without a disallowed short. The data provider, Alpaca, said that indicative quotes and trades were modified, and the OPRA 403 agreement was unsigned. The source chains were from Runway, and the calendar was from the NYSE. The historical option bars were also unavailable due to a 403 error, so no actual option profit and loss backtest was possible. The soundness of the model was insufficient despite valid conditional logic. The hard limit was one $0.09 contract, which already exceeded the risk before fees. The manager did not propose a solution and did not prove that the whole market was efficiently priced. The coverage included 14 underlying assets, 60-day expiries, and non-US/crypto exposure via EEM, FXI, and IBIT, but not foreign option venues.

IBIT Mean-Reversion
BacktestsrejectOptions mispricingIBIT2026-09-06 00:08
A study was done to see if buying long options for IBIT, based on a mean-reversion strategy, would be profitable. The study looked at the stock's past performance, including its profitability and costs, to make a decision. A diagnostic test was run using a computer program called CLI, which looked at the stocks F, SOFI, and IBIT, using a mean-reversion strategy over 20 days, with specific entry and exit rules. The results showed that F had a return of 0.79%, SOFI had a return of 7.07%, and IBIT had a loss of 25.80%. However, these results were not used because they did not account for certain costs and execution times. Another test was done using a different method, which looked at the performance of the stocks over a longer period, from January 2023 to September 2026, with different thresholds and costs. The results showed that even with a 2-sigma threshold and a 10bp cost, the return was still negative, at -24.461%. The study concluded that there was not enough evidence to support buying long options for IBIT, due to small sample sizes, lack of historical bid/ask execution data, and insufficient profits in the underlying stock to cover the costs of the options. A strong counterexample was found, where the rebound was too small to recover the spread and theta. The data used for the study came from a source at https://runway.adityaperswal.workers.dev. Based on the results, it was decided not to use this strategy to size options for IBIT.

A study on SOFI stock used a mean-reversion strategy, which is a trading method that assumes prices will return to their average, to see if it would be profitable to buy long options. The study had two main points to consider: first, that making a profit on the stock itself is not enough to guarantee making a profit on options, and second, that the costs of buying and selling must be included in the calculation. The study used a computer program to test the strategy on SOFI, F, and IBIT stocks over a period of time. The results showed that SOFI had a 7.07% profit, but this was not enough to justify buying long options due to small sample sizes and lack of historical data on option prices. The study also found that the rebound in prices was too small to cover the costs of buying and selling options. Therefore, the study rejected using this strategy to decide how many options to buy.

A study on the stock F found that using a mean-reversion strategy, which is a trading method that assumes prices will return to their average, did not provide enough evidence to support buying long options. The study used a computer program to test the strategy on F and two other stocks, SOFI and IBIT, from January 2023 to September 2025. The results showed that F had a return of 0.79%, SOFI had a return of 7.07%, and IBIT had a return of -25.80%. However, these results were not reliable due to the small sample size and lack of data on option prices. Another test was done using a different method, which also did not find any evidence to support buying long options. In fact, the results showed that the potential profits from the strategy were not enough to cover the costs of buying and selling options. Therefore, the study concludes that using this strategy as a proxy to determine the size of options trades is not reliable.

The QQQ exchange-traded fund tracks the Nasdaq 100 index before expenses and is non-diversified, meaning it does not spread its investments across many areas, which is known as diversification, a strategy to manage risk. This concentration allows for common-factor shocks, which are sudden changes that affect many investments at the same time, and these shocks can be either positive or negative. A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission from December 19, 2025, states that the QQQ has annual expenses of 0.18% and is concentrated in technology as of October 31, 2025. It also mentions a change to an open-end management company, which is a type of investment company that can issue new shares, and this filing replaces older descriptions. The main point against investing, or bear case, is that expectations for growth can already be included in the prices of stocks and calls, and bad news about interest rates or earnings can lower stock prices while increasing the volatility of puts, which are a type of option. There is no established advantage in the cash flow or valuation of companies, and no new fundamental change has been established over the weekend. The cost rate of 0.18% per year is very low, and trading variance and feed quality are more important than this cost. The conclusion is that there is no support for buying calls, and to have a fair price, current dividends and specific ex-dividend dates would be needed, but these are not assumed to be verified.

The idea that ordinary stock price ranges can guarantee profitable option exits is being questioned. There are three main points to consider: (1) the range of stock prices can limit the possible exits for options, (2) a trend in stock prices alone does not mean the option is underpriced, and (3) the full premium paid for an option, not just the distance to a stop-loss, uses up the risk limit. On September 4, the stock prices for certain stocks were recorded: QQQ was at $719.10, with an Average True Range (a measure of stock price volatility) of 8.1675, a Relative Strength Index (a measure of stock price momentum) of 53.73, and Simple Moving Averages (a measure of stock price trend) of $717.517 over 20 days and $711.0402 over 50 days. Similarly, SPY was at $770.18, IWM was at $295.94, and PATH was at $15.20, each with their own volatility, momentum, and trend measures. These mixed results do not prove that the trend will continue. A call option for QQQ with a strike price of $731 is $11.90, or 1.46 times the Average True Range above the current stock price, which could be reached in a strong move but is not the average outcome within one remaining session after September 4, considering the holiday on September 7. The case against this trade is that a flat stock price, lower realized variance, and time decay could eliminate the small premium, making it harder to make a profit despite the low cost of entry. There are no existing holdings to reset, and no indicator is a reason to enter a trade. The data comes from https://runway.adityaperswal.workers.dev/data/stock-bars, which provides stock price data for QQQ, SPY, IWM, and PATH.

A study was done to predict the volatility of 14 underlying assets. The study was based on three main ideas: (1) the volatility of an asset in the future affects the value of its long options, (2) a forecast of historical volatility can inform value, but there is a difference between physical and risk-neutral distributions, and (3) it is necessary to consider executable quotes and model uncertainty. The method used daily price data from January 2023 to September 4, 2026, from the IEX exchange and IBIT data from January 2024 onward. The study used a formula to calculate daily returns and variance, and then used a linear regression model to predict future variance. The model was trained on data before December 15, 2025, and then tested on data from January 2026 onward. The results showed that the model performed better than a baseline model for some assets, such as QQQ and SPY, but not for others, such as TLT. The forecast estimates for volatility were 16.3489% for QQQ, 13.3867% for SPY, 21.2358% for IWM, and 54.5551% for PATH. However, the study noted several limitations, including a small sample size and the difference between physical and risk-neutral distributions. The study concluded that the model should be used as a research diagnostic and that no trading edge was established, so the size of the trade should be zero.
